Speaking out in support of the Commissioner for Consumer Protection, the Hon Nick Goiran welcomes the legal action being taken against Bon Levi and Colin Burton, the alleged operators of the Bikini Girls Massage business, and their employee/agent Leigh Currie.

In a recent media release, the Department of Commerce states “Consumer Protection alleges that the operators of Bikini Girls Massage placed multiple advertisements in the employment sections of community newspapers which were liable to mislead potential applicants as to the true nature, terms and conditions of the employment.”

The Commissioner alleges “that certain advertisements for employees for a “Health Salon” were liable to mislead vulnerable female members of the community in that the advertisements omitted any reference to the fact that those responding were required to massage naked, or mostly naked, men and that they were also themselves required to be mostly naked, contrary to the Fair Trading Act 1987.” (http://www.docep.wa.gov.au/ConsumerProtection/)

The Hon. Nick Goiran MLC, Member for the South Metropolitan Region insisted this week, “We need to get real about the effects of the exploitative nature of these types of businesses. Women who are vulnerable need to be protected from predators wanting to make a quick dollar irrespective of the conditions or nature of work, and with no regard for the woman involved.”

“I applaud the strong stance being taken by the Commissioner and hope that this will send a message to those in society who set out to demean and degrade women”.
