Young Man Set to Make His Mark

30 June 2009

“Uplifting and very encouraging” said Member for the South Metropolitan Region, the Hon. Nick Goiran, when discussing an invitation he accepted to view Ben Marks house.

Ben was born with Muscular Dystrophy, and being a very self determined young gentleman, applied to the Department of Housing for a house.

A collaborative effort by Ben; his parents; occupational therapist, Sue Davis; architect John Blake; the Bullcreek Lion’s club and the Department of Housing, has seen his dream come true.

Troy Buswell, Minister for Housing and Works said Ben’s new home highlights the Department’s interactive role in ensuring people with disabilities are housed to support their disability and have access to essential work and community services.

Ben’s colleagues and friends, Dockers team mates Dean Solomon, Antoni Grover, Andrew Foster were also there for the housewarming.

“The honour and respect that Ben and the Dockers have for each other is obvious”, said the Hon. Nick Goiran MLC, “prior to entering Parliament, I was involved in legal cases concerning people whose life had been greatly affected by disabilities.  I am very encouraged by Ben’s ‘can do’ attitude and that our society has honoured Ben’s choices”, stated the Member for the South Metropolitan Region.
