Where there's a willWestern Australians can now safeguard their wills by storing them free of charge in the Public Trustee’s new WA Will Bank.

Attorney General Christian Porter said the service would not only make sure a person’s wishes were carried out after they passed away, but would also help families to more readily locate their loved ones’ wills.

“The Public Trustee receives more than 20 calls a week from distressed community members who either don’t know whether their deceased loved one had a will, or who know they did have a will but can’t find it,” he said.

Member for the South Metropolitan Region, Hon Nick Goiran MLC welcomes the idea saying “A single, centrally located Will Bank offers a convenient place for people to store and search for wills. I encourage all West Australians to take advantage of this service.”

Public Trustee John Skinner said the WA Will Bank would store Western Australian wills in a purpose-built vault, keeping them safe from loss, theft or damage.

To store your will in the WA Will Bank, take your will and two types of identification to the Public Trustee at 565 Hay Street, Perth and fill out a lodgment form.

The Will Bank service is free for people who lodge their own wills, although people lodging wills on behalf of others will be charged $195.
