About Nick
Hon Nick Goiran MLC, Husband, Father, Lawyer, Member of Parliament, was elected to the Western Australian Legislative Council for South Metropolitan in 2008. His term commenced on 22 May 2009.
A dedicated husband and father, Nick manages to juggle family with his voluntary not-for-profit board commitments and his role in Parliament.
Nick completed a double Bachelor Degree in Law and Commerce (including a double major in Banking and Finance) at Murdoch University and after graduating was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia in December 2000. He worked as a Solicitor and quickly became an Equity Partner some 18 months later. In 2007, Nick sold his equity in the firm before joining CLP Legal as a Consultant.
Being involved in the 08 State Election campaign heightened Nick’s appreciation for local issues and he can testify to having developed a deeper understanding of challenges facing the South Metropolitan Region. Having lived in this Region for most of his life, Nick has a tremendous amount of local knowledge. Nick understands the challenges and opportunities that face the Region and is keen to see measures and progress that will benefit the South Metropolitan Region both now and in the future.
Nick is the Chair of the Joint Standing Committee on the Crime and Corruption Commission. This Joint Standing Committee is principally tasked with monitoring and reporting to Parliament on the exercise of the functions of the Commission and the Parliamentary Inspector of the Commission and for promoting integrity within the public sector.
Nick is a member of the Joint Standing Committee on the Commissioner for Children and Young People. This Committee has the important task of monitoring, reviewing and reporting to Parliament on the exercise of the functions of the Children’s Commissioner.

Being a family man of strong values, there are a number of reforms that Nick is keen to see initiated that will improve society, defend the vulnerable and safeguard families. Nick is very keen to proactively work to ‘build hedges’ around families and marriages, protecting what he sees is the bedrock of our society.
