Visit to the Australian National Phenome Centre
The Australian National Phenome Centre (ANPC) is a centre of expertise in metabolic phenotyping which has the potential to transform the way disease is prevented, diagnosed and treated. This is not only limited to human diseases but those that impact agriculture and the environment as well.
I was delighted to attend a tour of the ANPC on Tuesday 25 February, along with my Liberal colleagues Hon Liza Harvey MLA, Hon Michael Mischin MLC, Mr Zak Kirkup MLA, and Dr David Honey MLA. On the tour we discovered the way ANPC, led by Murdoch University are collaborating with other universities and Fiona Stanley Hospital to research how environment and lifestyle interact with our genes and how this translates to more precise medical intervention. The ANPC collaborates with similar centres in London, Birmingham, Hong Kong and Singapore and has already made a major contribution to State, National and International health research.
The work that Professor Jeremy Nicholson and Professor Elaine Holmes are doing, with their team and Murdoch University, is certainly impressive and will change individual health and healthcare outcomes in the future. Click here to read more.
