Government Failing Victims, Fails Community Safety, and Fails to Deliver Justice
The Cook Labor Government is failing both victims and the broader community. Victims deserve action, not endless reviews and inaction and the public deserves safety, not excuses. This Government is delivering neither.
Government Scrambles on Justice Delays
The Cook Labor Government’s announcement, on the 19th August 2025, of a review into court delays is a belated acknowledgment of a crisis the Opposition has been warning about for years.
I reminded Parliament that the Law Society of Western Australia have repeatedly raised the alarm about criminal trial delays, citing public warnings going back to 2021.
“When you consider the volume of this bill, its significance, the controversy that it has caused, the numerous errors that the police minister has made in public, the lack of answers that were provided in Committee of the Whole as distinct from responses that were provided, what else can one say about it other than it is an entirely unsatisfactory state of affairs?”

Prison Fugitives Must Be Named and Shamed
The escape and whereabouts of individuals on parole truly highlights how flawed the criminal justice system has become under Labor’s watch.
The Cook Labor Government’s response has been complacent and lacklustre, failing to take decisive action and leaving the public to suffer the consequences.

Unfortunately, the Premier’s new Emergency Management Amendment (Temporary COVID-19 Provisions) Act 2022 – which has replaced his “state of emergency” – doesn’t stop emergency declarations. It just means the Police Commissioner has been given the power to activate a State of Emergency at the drop of a hat.

The Attorney General’s commendable desire to trial some novel laws against outlaw motorcycle gangs does not justify this latest example of special treatment for unionists.

This workshop was an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas about gathering evidence and research, scrutinising anti-trafficking policy, legislation and oversight of the implementation of anti-trafficking laws.
